The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, is currently on lockdown amid an unspecified threat.

“Naval Support Activity Annapolis, in coordination with local law enforcement, is currently responding to reports of threats made to the Naval Academy,” Navy officials said in a statement on Thursday. “The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. This is a developing situation and we will provide updates as they become available.”

Inside the academy’s Bancroft Hall, upperclassmen and brigade leaders rapidly took accountability of their companies and platoons in person, by phone, and text, passing upwards through the brigade’s chain of command any instance of a student who could not be immediately located.

No further information about the situation was immediately available.

This is a breaking news story. It will be updated as more information becomes available.
