Israel-Iran conflict: Indian citizens using own vehicles advised to ‘move outside Tehran’

Amidst reports of possible broadening of the Israel-Iran conflict, the Indian Embassy in Iran has urged “all” Indian nationals and People of Indian Origin who are using “own” vehicles to leave the city for a safer location outside.

The Tuesday (June 17, 2025) morning public announcement is aimed at the large number of Indians and an unspecified number of People of Indian Origin resident in Tehran as U.S. President Donald Trump cut short his visit to the G7 summit in Canada and rushed back to Washington DC.

“All Indian Nationals and PIOs who can move ut of Tehran using their own resources, are advised to move to a safe location outside the city,” said the Embassy of India in the public announcement. This is the first time in the last one week that the Indian Embassy has urged people to use “own resources” to get out of Tehran which is witnessing a large scale exodus of citizens as the fear of full scale attack on Iran mounts.

The embassy of India put out three phone numbers for those who want assistance while leaving Tehran: +98-9010144557, +98-9128109115 and +98-9128109101

The Embassy of India further said, “All Indian nationals who are in Tehran and not in touch with the Embassy are requested to contact the Embassy of India in Tehran immediately and provide their location and contact numbers”.  The Ministry of External Affairs in an announcement on Tuesday (17 June, 2025) morning said “some Indians have been facilitated to leave Iran through the border with Armenia” adding that further advisories will be issued depending on the “fluid situation”. 

The Embassy of India has been coordinating relocation of Indian students and professionals from Tehran since the last weekend through specially arranged buses in an urgent measure to move them away from the Iranian capital that has been targeted repeatedly by Israeli air force and missiles.

The Embassy of India in Iran on Sunday (June 15) issued emergency whatsapp numbers – +989010144557, +989015993320, +91-8086871709 for citizens who are stuck in Iran in the prevailing circumstances. Separate numbers were also issued for those in the southern Iranian port of Bandar Abbas (+98-9177699036), and Zahedan (+98-93963-56649).
