Abeking & Rasmussen consortium selected for the EUROSWEEP program

Abeking & Rasmussen and its European consortium have been selected for EU funding under the European Defence Fund (EDF) for the EUROSWEEP project “Autonomous Heavy Mine Sweeping”.
Abeking & Rasmussens press release
Together with partners from 13 countries, Abeking & Rasmussen is contributing core expertise in autonomous maritime systems, specifically focusing on the development of a self-driving mine countermeasure drone. This system will simulate the acoustic, magnetic, and pressure signatures of a much larger vessel to safely trigger and neutralize naval mines—marking a significant step forward in autonomous defence technologies.
- Duration: 48 months
- Start expected: Late 2025
- Consortium countries: Germany, Norway, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark
This selection is not only a technological milestone but also affirming our commitment to driving innovation in mine countermeasures.
European security depends on joint innovation — and we’re proud to help shape the future of autonomous defence together.

About EUROSWEEP:
As described by the European Commission:
“The aim of the project is to develop a minesweeping system to protect large commercial ships and military re- supply vessels. The project will study, design, prototype and test the main components such as the operator control station and the cybersecurity of unmanned, autonomous, cost-effective heavy minesweeping systems. It will further design alternative payloads for underwater resilience and anti-submarine warfare to demonstrate the modularity of the system concept.”
The estimated cost for this program is 37.7 million euros and should last about four years. Norway is the lead coordinator of the project with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt – FFI).
